Challenge
5G-EPICENTRE aims to deliver an open end-to-end experimentation 5G platform focusing on software solutions that serve the needs of Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR). The envisioned platform will enable SMEs and developers to acquire knowledge with regard to the latest 5G applications and approaches for first responders and crisis management, as well as to build up and experiment with their solutions. 5G-EPICENTRE will span for 36 months to allow enough time for the end-to-end 5G experimentation platform federation, prototyping, lab validation and experimentation. Every technical activity, including optimization algorithms, network orchestration APIs, novel analytics ML and visualization solutions will be addressed in an iterative and incremental approach, as proposed by the SCRUM scientific and techno-logical methodology.
Objectives
The project has 6 main objectives:
To build an end-to-end 5G experimentation platform specifically tailored to the needs of the public safety and emergency response market players.
To pilot 5G systems in PPDR-based trials, successfully demonstrating 5G-EPICENTRE onboarded apps as a crucial communications accompaniment to public safety mission critical communications technologies.
To cultivate a ‘5G Experiments as a Service’ model, which will enable developers and SMEs to experiment with PPDR applications in parameterized, easily repeatable, and shareable environments.
To facilitate automation, continuous deployment and multi-access edge computing supported by containerized network functions, so as to reduce service creation time and time-to-market for 5G solutions.
To leverage Artificial Intelligence for achieving cognitive experiment coordination and lifecycle management, including dynamic 5G slicing, application awareness and insightful ML-driven analytics.
To implement impact-driven dissemination, standardisation and exploitation.
eBOS’ role in the project is three-fold. Firstly, eBOS is responsible for the implementation of the northbound API by leveraging expertise in dashboard development, APIs and systems integration. Secondly, eBOS is responsible for the design and implementation of the project’s communication strategy and plan. Within this plan eBOS will design, develop and maintain the project’s website and social networks’ accounts, as well as promote the use of the project’s results towards European ICT SMEs with the aim of enabling and encouraging them to use the project’s exploitable assets and services. Thirdly, eBOS, as the Ethics Manager of the project, will lead the ethical and legal framework including the ethics requirements.
