Deep AR Law Enforcement Ecosystem

Duration: 01/09/2020 – 31/08/2023   |   Total Funding: EUR 6,954,860.00

Challenge & Objectives

DARLENE H2020 project aims to investigate means by which Augmented Reality (AR) can be deployed in real time to aid in Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA) decision-making, by employing AR capabilities and combining them with powerful Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning algorithms, sensor information fusion techniques, 3D reconstruction, wearable technology and personalized context-aware recommendations. Hence, DARLENE will offer European LEAs a proactive security solution, which will provide an IoT level of Situational Awareness, detection and recognition, combining cutting edge technology and public security in all security verticals. DARLENE will also enable LEAs to reduce and prevent crime, as well as to respond faster to crimes even in progress, by enabling them to sort through massive volumes of data to predict, anticipate and prevent criminal activities, make better informed tactical decisions and provide enhanced protection services for European citizens. DARLENE will therefore develop practical and beneficial policing applications through the use of affordable, light-weight and inconspicuous AR glasses. Such applications will capitalize on cutting edge research that will be combined with AR technology to create innovative methods for combating crime and even terrorist acts.

To align technology development with actual security needs and requirements, DARLENE will build a community of LEAs organization and security stakeholders that will guide the development process and evaluate the entire DARLENE ecosystem. In this regard, DARLENE foresees extensive demonstration and training activities for LEAs while the entire solution will be demonstrated and validated in realistic scenarios during the pilot phase of the project, thus paving the way to its field deployment and commercial uptake.

In DARLENE, eBOS will be leading the dissemination and communication activities, aiming at maximising the project’s impact by enabling selected target audiences to make use of the project’s results. eBOS will develop a detailed plan for using and disseminating knowledge, undertake the design of DARLENE’s visual identity through a well-recognised logo and be responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the project’s website, social network accounts and ongoing production of dissemination and communication templates and materials.

Leveraging its experience in bringing solutions to market, eBOS will also be leading the development of the project’s Exploitation strategy and plan.

With Regards to Technical Development, eBOS Will:

1

participate in the requirements elicitation, aiming at specifying operators’ requirements

2

provide inputs for the elaboration of the DARLENE platform’s architectural specifications

3

support the definition – and later, execution - of the use cases to be validated

4

contribute to the setup and maintenance of the Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) infrastructure for the DARLENE solution as well as its management and orchestration.

5

support the deployment of the DARLENE 5G RAN testbed at the Larnaca International airport in Cyprus, where demonstration activities of the DARLENE solution will take place.

By participating in DARLENE, eBOS aims at developing knowledge and reinforcing understanding in novel, user-friendly cybersecure technologies for preventing and reducing criminal threats, thus extending the company’s R&D activities in fields related to Augmented Reality, 5G and ICT. eBOS will apply the results in the company’s product portfolio for developing new innovative cybersecure applications and solutions, and expanding its customer base.
