eBOS participates in the NextGEM Kick-off meeting

On July 19th, the project NextGEM ‘Next Generation Integrated Sensing and Analytical System for Monitoring and Assessing Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Field Exposure and Health’ held its face-to-face kick-off meeting. This 48-month EU-funded Research and Innovation Action funded under the Horizon Europe programme officially started on the 1st of July 2022.

Our colleagues Philippos Philippou, R&D Senior Project Manager, Andreas Gavrielides, R&D Project Manager and Andrianos Yiorkas, Programme Manager/Researcher, participated in the face-to-face kick-off-meeting which was chaired by Dr. Nikolaos Petroulakis, Research Scientist at the Institute of Computer Science of Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), as the Coordinator of NextGEM. The 20 consortium partners attended the meeting, which included partners’ introductions, a presentation of the vision, objectives and plan of the project by the project coordinator, and an overview of the overall project expectations and guidelines by the European Commission.

NextGEM envisions assuring safety for EU citizens when employing existing and future EMF-based telecommunication technologies. This will be accomplished by generating relevant knowledge that ascertains appropriate prevention and control/actuation actions of EMF exposure in residential, public, and occupational settings.

The project’s results will be consolidated in a tool to maximise NextGEM’s social impact, termed the European NextGEM Innovation and Knowledge Hub (NIKH) for EMF and Health. NIKH is envisioned to be utilised by European regulatory authorities, the scientific community and the general public to provide inside into how EMF exposures affect health.

Three Use Cases will be used to demonstrate and validate NextGEM’s results that are designed to cover different groups of geographical and socio-economic conditions and vulnerable people exposed to different signals:

  • Potential effects of indoor levels of RF exposure of vulnerable people on reproduction and development,
  • Optimised outdoor urban planning and 5G design architecture and investigations for public awareness of cancer-related health hazards, and
  • Health effects of exposure to mmWave EMF in indoor and outdoor environments

In NextGEM, eBOS will provide its 19+ years of experience as a software powerhouse by designing the Dashboard and the Application Programming Interface of NIKH, as well as the NextGEM Mobile Application with the primary goal of supporting citizen self-awareness of EMF exposure.

Moreover, eBOS will be responsible for performing project quality evaluation criteria, continuous monitoring of deliverables, triggering quality assurance project reviews, risk assessment procedures, evaluation measurements and producing risk and quality review reports. eBOS will also create and regularly update the NextGEM project’s website.
