The 6G-INTENSE, 6G-SNS Horizon Europe Project Kicks Off

On the 11th January 2024, the 6G-INTENSE project “Intent-driven NaTive AI architecturE supporting Compute-Network abstraction and Sensing at the Deep Edge”, held its physical kick-off meeting (KoM) in Barcelona, Spain. This 36-month EU-funded Research and Innovation Action funded under the Horizon Europe 6G-SNS programme officially started on the 1st January 2024.

Dr. Charalambos Klitis (R&D Senior Project Manager), and Dr. Kleanthis Erotokritou (R&D Project Manager) participated in the KoM, hosted by Dr. Christos Verikoukis representing ISI/ Athena Research Centre, as the coordinator of the project.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the 11 consortium partners and included partners’ presentations of the vision and objectives of the project, as well as an overview of the project’s expectations and guidelines by the European Commission’s Project Officer. Partners also discussed the project’s implementation work plan, challenges and risks identified, and its implementation schedule.

6G-INTENSE proposes the development of an advanced platform for executing smart services (Smart Service Execution Platform) that will incorporate:

Sustainable Infrastructure Sharing, prioritizing the reduction of space and energy costs through sustainable infrastructure sharing.

Unified Network-Compute Fabric, fostering collaboration across the entire value chain by implementing a Unified Network-Compute Fabric.

Distributed Intent-driven Management and Orchestration (DIMO) by introducing an innovative automation architecture that utilizes a Native AI toolkit to facilitate intent declaration, negotiation, and decision automation across autonomous domains.

Incorporation of Sensing, recognizing sensing as a crucial enabler to address complexities and reliability challenges associated with the deep edge.

6G-INTENSE innovations, functionalities, and performance will be validated through 2 representative 6G use cases, namely Distributed Continuum towards pervasive computing, and Metaverse, in corresponding Proof of Concepts over several well-established 5G testbeds, which will be upgraded to support 6G-INTENSE innovations and architectural elements.

eBOS’ leads the implementation of the Domain Manager and Orchestrator together with the integration of the Native AI mechanisms. Furthermore, eBOS participates in the co-design and co-development of the AI-driven machine reasoning for intent decomposition, federated domain edge intelligence and knowledge optimisation, the development of intent APIs, and the adaptation of the developed software to the needs of the testbeds.

eBOS also leads the dissemination and communication activities to maximise the project’s visibility by deploying various traditional and electronic communication materials to reach a broad spectrum of stakeholders. In addition to developing and sustaining the project’s website, eBOS will manage the social media presence for 6G-INTENSE.

Finally, leveraging its wide experience in the market, eBOS will contribute to the elaboration of 6G-INTENSE exploitation and sustainability plans.
