Challenge & Objectives
The pan-European Transport & Logistics (T&L) eco-system is considered one of the main adopters of 5G, and as such, the successful transfer of 5G-empowered services from trials/pilot stages to production depends highly on the availability of flexible and intuitive tools and APIs for design, management and orchestration of their services. VITAL-5G prioritises this ambition and plans to overcome, through its intuitive and production-ready Network Applications (NetApps) orchestration platform with open repository, various limitations that exist today for industry verticals keen to design and deploy T&L virtualised services in a 5G network.
The objectives of VITAL-5G are the Following:
To drive and foster the development and sharing of novel vertical-specific and vertical-agnostic NetApps for the T&L sector by supporting open source tools and an open repository for flexible and interoperable deployment through the VITAL-5G platform.
To deliver an open, virtualized 5G-enabled testing and validation experimentation facility, which will provide the means for relevant T&L stakeholders to deploy and benchmark the performance of their innovative NetApps on top of a 5G network.
To demonstrate the benefit and showcase the added value of 5G connectivity for advanced multi-modal logistics services across European roads, seas and rivers, creating a functional value chain for highly automated freight transportation.
To provide customized and virtualized access to network and T&L infrastructure (port, warehouse, equipment and facilities) resources, enabling dynamic tailor-made service provisioning to 3rd parties (such as SMEs) to validate their applications over resources otherwise unavailable to them, thus boosting confidence prior to actual service deployment.
To enable novel business models development for open, integrated and cooperative services across multiple domains, addressing specific T&L use cases and to justify the investment from key stakeholders.
To foster the development and advancement of a T&L centred ecosystem, which will drive the European integration of 5G services into the T&L vertical, by bringing together key vertical stakeholders (port authorities, road operators, etc.) with SMEs developing cutting-edge technology and applications. To accelerate the adoption and scale-up of VITAL-5G experimentation facility and NetApps through wide dissemination means and provide contributions to key standardisation organisations.
eBOS Will Lead:
the overall Quality Assurance of the project with the responsibility of organizing and supervising quality review/peer reviews for all deliverables including the implementation of the quality management plan. eBOS will be also in charge of performing project quality evaluation criteria, risk assessment, continuous monitoring, triggering quality assurance project reviews, risk assessment procedures, evaluation measurements and producing risk and quality review reports.
the Dissemination & Communication activities of the project with the development of an attractive and modern-looking website as well liaise with a number of target groups for the projects including ICT companies, particularly SMEs, 5G communities, the European Technology Platforms (NESSI, NEM, NetWorld2020, NGI), etc., in which eBOS participates.
the work on the functional testing and operational readiness of the VITAL-5G facilities and will participate in the individual interconnection of each testbed to the portal (front-end)
the testing and validation methodology which entails the acceptance test procedures for conducting both the technological and business validation of the Transport and Logistics NetApps and associated use cases.
eBOS will assist the consortium partners with the elicitation and analysis of the end user requirements to produce the technical specifications, the portal design and the methodologies definition, as well as provide support to the end-users during the trials and demonstrations, so as to link the evaluation results and the lessons learned to the commercialization and innovation activities of the project.
